Consulting room at Prism Wellness in Cary, North Carolina

Specialized Care in Cary, NC

Alongside therapy for anxiety, depression and trauma, we offer a small number of specialized services. Each has its own page with the detail you would actually want before reaching out, including who provides it, what the process looks like and where the limits are.

Four specialized services In person in Cary or telehealth Free 10-minute consultation

These are the areas where we have gone deeper than general practice, either because the training is specialized or because the care has to be coordinated with prescribers and other providers. Everything here is delivered by the same team, in the same building, under the same approach to care.

What we offer

Substance use and addiction therapy

Evidence-based counseling for substance use, behavioral addictions and harm reduction, aimed at what sits underneath the behavior rather than the behavior alone. Includes work with co-occurring anxiety and depression, which is more often the rule than the exception.

Ketamine-assisted therapy

Our KAP service. Trained therapists working in partnership with medical prescribers, for treatment resistant depression, PTSD and severe anxiety when other approaches have not been enough. We provide the therapy, not the medication. A licensed medical provider handles the prescribing and health screening separately.

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, explained

The education page rather than the service. An honest look at where the research on psychedelics and therapy stands, from MDMA to psilocybin. What KAP actually is, how it differs from IV infusions and Spravato, and the boundaries of what a therapist can and cannot do.

KAP training for clinicians

For licensed therapists rather than clients. Training and consultation in ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, drawn from the work our own clinicians do week to week.

Not sure which one applies

Most people are not arriving with a tidy category in mind, and you do not need one. If what you are dealing with touches more than one of these, or none of them cleanly, that is normal and it is what the consultation is for.

Tori, our care coordinator, listens to what is going on and matches you to the clinician whose training fits, including whether one of these specialized services is the right route at all. If it is not, she will say so.

This is not a crisis line. If you're in immediate danger, call or text 988.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is ketamine-assisted therapy different from a ketamine clinic?

A clinic typically handles the medication and monitoring, often with you alone in the room during the experience. Our KAP service provides the therapy around it, with a trained therapist present, plus preparation beforehand and integration afterwards. We are not a medication provider and we work in partnership with prescribers.

Do I need a referral for any of these?

No. You can reach out directly and start with a free 10-minute consultation. For ketamine-assisted therapy there is a medical assessment involved before anything begins, and we will walk you through how that works.

Can I do specialized work alongside regular therapy?

Usually yes, and often that is the point. Substance use work and ketamine-assisted therapy both tend to sit inside a broader plan that includes ongoing therapy for anxiety, depression or trauma.

Do you take my insurance?

We are in network with Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Tricare and United. Tricare and United plans are seen by fully licensed therapists only. Coverage varies by service, so Tori will confirm the specifics before you begin.

Start with a conversation

A free 10-minute consultation is the fastest way to find out whether one of these is the right fit, or whether something simpler is. No referral needed and no commitment attached.
